GPS Soil Sampling

Precision Agriculture

Historically, the object of soil sampling was to determine the average soil test level for the field. Today’s site-specific soil sampling identifies areas of good and poor soil fertility by region.  The result is the ability to apply fertilizers in areas where utilization will be maximized and dollars spent minimized.  Individual map layers can be generated for each nutrient.

Precision Agriculture Soil Sampling

Grid sampling

Once your field is mapped, sample sites are generated at any intensity you desire. Grid sample intensity of 2 acres or smaller is recommended.

Soil Depth Capacities

One-foot sampling is usually adequate for potatoes, onions and many other crops. However, sampling 3-4 foot depths is necessary for nitrogen management and optimization of sugar production in beets. Soiltest can sample from 6-48 inches. For environmental surveys, Soiltest has probes that utilize acetate liners for zero-contamination sampling depths to 6 feet.

Smart Sampling

Soiltest has taken the technology of GPS positioning and digital imagery to create Smart Sampling. By overlaying digital images on field maps, we can distinguish different areas and guide efforts to those areas.

Considerable time and expense are involved in collecting precision agriculture samples. You need to utilize the best Laboratory available for soil analysis. Soiltest operates a quality laboratory, which excels in the North American Proficiency Testing Program and is certified by Washington State DOE.
